Contemporary Art can be variously interpreted but most critics define it as art produced since 1946. Collectors, government granting agencies and corporations all heavily influence what is accepted as Contemporary Art.
Excluded artistic endeavors include self-taught and unrecognized artists who work outside of historical contexts, as well as crafts and textile design. Art created since 1945 which seeks to make a statement is more likely to be accounted Contemporary Art than pieces that are simply beautiful. In the last six decades there have been at least a dozen art movements in each decade.
The works of Troy Caperton and Jon Smith are created in the first decade of the twenty-first century. They both celebrate the nature of hope and joy as expressed in depictions of the male body.
