Myron of Eleutherae (ca. 490-430 BCE)

Myron of Eleutherae worked chiefly in bronze and was an older contemporary of Phidias and Polyclitus, and, like them, also a pupil of Ageladas.

Myron is known for his Discobolus (discus-thrower) which had careful proportion and rhythm. His sculpture of a bronze heifer was supposedly so lifelike it could be mistaken for a real cow.

Diskobolos (ca. 460 BCE)

An Olympic-sized work inspired by the 5th century BC piece in the Museo Nazionale, Rome One of the most famous classic Greek sculptures of all time, this work boasts vigorous and convincing movement in a perfect male form.

Flexed muscles and concentrated expression create an image of a tightly stretched bow a moment before the string is released.
