Early Nude Male Art
Early Nude Male Art has been depicted from the earliest times: on cave
walls, in paintings, on stone and in every other way possible. We
review some of these early depictions.
In this section we will see examples of such art in
Prehistoric
Cave Art,
Ancient
Egypt,
Ancient
Greece
, and
Ancient
Rome
, as these examples are ready at this time. We plan on gathering
further examples of the Art of the Male Nude from Ancient Egypt,
Mesopotamia, India, China and Japan, as well as the European Middle Ages
and the European Gothic Period.
None of these cultures celebrated Early Nude Male Art more than the
Ancient Greeks. Beginning in the Fifth Century Before the Common Era
(BCE), Greeks began portraying heroes and athletes as nudes. Among the
Greeks we have the named artists of
Lysippos,
Myron
and
Naukydes
. There were also many
anonymous
artists
whose names we have lost, including the
Diver
Artist
. The Greeks and later the Romans progressed and reached a pinnacle in
these depictions.
With the collapse of Classical Civilization in the Fifth Century of the
Common Era, this thousand year period came to an end in Western Europe.
Therefore, no culture celebrated less the beauty of the male nude than
the European periods of the Middle Ages and the Gothic Era.
